The Kids Are Alright

The 1979 concert documentary on The Who — an inside look at the band, with performances and interviews.

The Kids Are Alright (opens full size in a new tab)

I was asked to make this 1979 rock documentary by The Who because of previous work I'd done for their singer, Roger Daltrey, and for Deep Purple band members on "The Butterfly Ball". The making of this iconic film was an insane experience which I wrote about in my book "Twilight of the Gods". Keith Moon, sadly, did not live to see the film premiere.

The film captured the original band's chaotic lifestyle, together and apart, both on and off stage. Some of the mayhem included a naked girl jumping out of a giant cake, the film Executive Producer (Sydney Rose) nearly drowning during a practical joke, the explosive interviews (and equipment!), and, above all, the ear-pounding sound of Mod anarchy.
